B in bubble letters

B in bubble letters is a straight, puffy back with two round bowls stacked on the front, pinched together at the waist. It is one of the most satisfying letters to inflate because both bowls swell like balloons. Here it is in color, lowercase and as a printable outline, with steps to draw it.

How do you draw a B in bubble letters?

Draw a thin B, then trace around it at an even distance: a flat back on the left, a smaller top bowl, a bigger bottom bowl and a deep notch where they meet on the right. Put a small hole inside each bowl, close the outline and erase your guide lines.

  1. Pencil the stem. Draw a straight vertical line for the back of the B.
  2. Add two bowls. Attach two bumps to the right side, the top one slightly smaller than the bottom one.
  3. Trace the back. Draw the outline down the left side, keeping it almost straight with rounded corners top and bottom.
  4. Swell the bowls. Curve out around the top bowl, cut in sharply at the waist, then swing out wider around the bottom bowl.
  5. Punch two holes. Draw a small oval inside each bowl. Make the lower hole a bit larger to match the bigger bowl.
  6. Finish. Ink the outline, erase the pencil and shade the side facing away from your light source.

What makes a B easy or tricky in bubble letters

The B is easy to inflate but easy to lose. Two equal bowls with a round back turn it into an 8, and a shallow waist turns it into a lumpy D. The fixes are a flat back and a clear pinch on the right. The waist notch should reach well into the letter, almost to the stem, so the two bubbles read as separate shapes.

Lowercase b in bubble letters

Lowercase b has just one bowl, sitting at the bottom of a tall stem. In bubble form the stem becomes a rounded tower that rises above the other lowercase letters, and the bowl bulges out to the right. Keep a visible step where the tower meets the top of the bowl, or the letter looks like a stretched D lying on its side.

Cute, 3D and graffiti bubble B

A cute bubble B can wear a small bow on the waist notch, which also hides any wobble there. For a 3D B, the drop shadow wraps around both bowls and shows up inside the notch, which makes the pinch look deeper. Graffiti writers often split the two bowls apart or flick an arrow off the bottom.

Common mistakes with a bubble B

  • Rounding the back so the letter becomes an 8.
  • Making the waist notch too shallow, so the two bowls melt into one lump.
  • Drawing both holes as thin slits that close up when you add the outline.

Questions people ask

Should the two bowls of a bubble B be the same size?

No. Make the bottom bowl a little wider and taller than the top one. Equal bowls look top-heavy once they are inflated, and they push the letter toward an 8. A bigger base bowl makes the B look settled, like it is sitting on the line. The difference only needs to be small, roughly one marker width.

How can kids tell a bubble b from a bubble d?

Look at where the tall part is. On a lowercase b the tall tower is on the left and the round belly faces right, like the start of the word "bed". On a d the belly comes first and the tower is on the right. Writing "bed" in bubble letters is a handy way to practice both shapes side by side.

Why is "bubble" a good word to practice the bubble letter B?

It has three b's, a lowercase u and an l, so you repeat the bowl-and-stem shape while the letters between them stay simple. You can check whether your three b's match in size and spacing. Type it into the generator to see a finished version, then draw it yourself and compare.
