Love and friendship

Love words are the most searched bubble letter words of all. They go on Valentine's cards, anniversary notes and bedroom posters, and short ones like LOVE leave room for hearts.

Family

Family words are short and personal, which makes them easy to draw big. Most end up on Mother's Day and Father's Day cards, birthday cards and coloring gifts from kids.

Holidays and seasons

Holiday words are long phrases, so each page shows how to split them onto two or three lines and which colors and doodles fit the season.

School subjects

School subject words make good titles for notebook covers, binders, science fair boards and classroom signs.

Everyday words

Everyday words work for signs, notes and posters all year: a WELCOME sign on a classroom door, a THANK YOU note or a CONGRATULATIONS banner.

Faith

Faith words suit Sunday school posters, youth group banners and Bible journaling, in bubble letters or classic Old English.

How do you write any word in bubble letters?

To write any word in bubble letters, write it lightly in pencil with wide gaps, draw a round shape around each letter, erase the pencil word inside, then outline in thick black, color it and add a shadow on one side. The same steps work for a three-letter word like FUN and a 15-letter word like CONGRATULATIONS; only the planning changes.

  1. Count the letters. Words up to about eight letters fit on one line. Longer words and phrases look better on two or three lines, with the longest line drawn first.
  2. Mark the widths. M and W are about twice as wide as I. Pencil a slot for each letter before you draw, so the last letters do not run off the page.
  3. Close the gaps. Letters open on one side, like F, L and C, leave holes in a word. Tuck the next letter into that space.
  4. Match the repeats. Double letters (the RR in MERRY, the LL in FALL) and repeated letters should be the same size. Draw one, then copy it.
  5. Leave word gaps. In a phrase, the gap between words should be wider than the gap between letters, about half a letter.
  6. Finish in order. Fill color first, then the black outline, then the shadow, then white highlights.

Apostrophes count too. Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and Father's Day all keep the apostrophe before the S; draw it as a small teardrop or heart near the top of the letters. For the shapes of single letters, use the bubble letters alphabet, or start from the printable bubble letters and trace.

What are cool words to write in bubble letters?

The coolest words for bubble letters are short, with round letters like O, S, U and C, and a meaning that fits the soft, puffy style: LOVE, PEACE, FUN, MOM or a name. Words packed with straight, pointed letters (K, W, V, A) take more rounding but look bold once done.

For words picked for graffiti rather than cards, such as BOOM, HYPE or VIBES, see the graffiti ideas page. Writing a greeting? Happy Birthday in bubble letters has its own guide with a printable banner, and ages go well with bubble numbers.

Questions people ask

What words look best in bubble letters?

Short words with round letters look best: LOVE, MOM, FUN, PEACE, SUMMER and names with O, S, C or U in them. Three to six letters is the easiest length to balance. Long words still work, but they need narrower letters or two lines. Words with soft, happy meanings suit the puffy style best.

Are these bubble letter words free to print?

Yes. Every word page has a free printable outline PDF and PNG images you can download for personal, family and classroom use, such as cards, posters and coloring sheets. If you plan to sell printed items made with them, read the license page first.

How do you write a long phrase in bubble letters?

Split it onto two or three lines and draw the longest line first. For HAPPY THANKSGIVING, put HAPPY on top and THANKSGIVING below, with HAPPY a little taller so the rows balance. Center each line, keep the same letter style throughout, and leave a gap between rows so shadows do not overlap the line below.

Can I type my own word and get it in bubble letters?

Yes. Open the generator, type any word or name, and it appears in bubble letters right away. You can change the colors, the 3D shadow and the background, then download a PNG or SVG, or print it as a coloring page.

What is the hardest word to write in bubble letters?

Long words with pointed letters are hardest. On these pages, CONGRATULATIONS (15 letters) and THANKSGIVING (12 letters, with a K and two G's) take the most planning. Letters like K, W, V and Y need their points rounded off, and repeated letters must match. Pencil the slots first and the rest gets easier.
