Family in bubble letters

To write FAMILY in bubble letters, sketch the six letters F, A, M, I, L and Y with a wide M in the middle, close the open sides of F and L, and finish with one thick outline. It makes a warm title for a photo wall, a family tree project or a reunion sign. Copy a version below or print the outline.

How do you write Family in bubble letters?

  1. Count the widths. FAMILY has six letters with very different widths: M is widest, I is narrowest. Mark six slots with the M slot about twice the I slot. This keeps the I from vanishing.
  2. Fill the gaps after F and L. F and L are open on the right, which leaves holes in the word. Slide the A under the arm of the F and tuck the Y into the corner above the L's foot.
  3. Round the points of A and Y. Turn the top of the A into a dome and the fork of the Y into a soft V. Keep the Y on the baseline, since the capital Y has no tail.
  4. Give the I rounded caps. Make the I a short, fat capsule with rounded ends, the same height as the others. A thin line looks like a gap.
  5. Center it over the picture. If FAMILY is a title over photos or a tree, sketch it in pencil first and check the middle (between M and I) sits over the middle of the page.

Colors and decorations for Family

A rainbow, one color per letter, suits FAMILY because each letter can stand for a person. Or let every family member color their own letter in their favorite color. Add a heart in the A's counter, small house or tree drawings at the ends, or tiny stick figures holding hands underneath. A warm orange shadow keeps a rainbow word looking like one piece.

Family in graffiti letters

The graffiti image uses 3D letters pushed back with a deep block. FAMILY has mostly straight letters (F, A, M, I, L), which makes the 3D block easy to draw, because each side is a straight line. Point the block the same way on all six letters and color it darker than the fill. The 3D graffiti letters guide covers depth and direction.

Questions people ask

How do you add a last name to FAMILY in bubble letters?

Put the last name on top in big letters and FAMILY underneath in smaller ones, or write "THE SMITH FAMILY" on two lines with THE small. Keep both lines in the same style and outline weight. Long last names may need narrower letters, so sketch the widest line first and fit the other one to it.

What letter is hardest in FAMILY?

Usually the Y, because its fork has to be rounded and it is easy to make it too tall. The I is the next trouble spot, as it tends to come out too thin. Draw the Y with a soft V on top and a short fat stem, and give the I the same height and rounded caps as the rest.

Can I use FAMILY in bubble letters for a class project?

Yes. The printable outline and colored images on this page are free for classroom and personal use, including family tree posters and all-about-me projects. Students can print the outline, color it and glue it as a title, or type their family name into the generator and print it the same size.
