What is in the Christmas tracing pack?

  • Christmas shapes page: all nine shapes with their names, a gentle start for the youngest children.
  • One page per shape: a big dotted shape with a green start dot, its name to trace, rows of smaller ones and a box to draw it alone.
  • Merry Christmas: the greeting on handwriting lines, a dark row to copy and dotted rows to trace, plus a box to draw a Christmas tree.
  • Christmas words: Santa, tree, star, gift, snow, bell, elf, joy and Noel, three words per page.
  • Christmas lines: wavy, zigzag, hill, castle and looped lines, each from a green dot to a yellow star.

Gingerbread man and snowman tracing

The gingerbread man and the snowman are the favorites, so each has its own page. The snowman is three circles, which makes it great practice for round shapes; start at the top of the head and go round. The gingerbread man has arms and legs with rounded ends: start at the neck, follow the arm out and back, and go all the way round to the head. After tracing, children can draw buttons, a face and a scarf in the empty box.

Which page for which age?

  • Ages 2–3: the shapes page and the Christmas lines, traced with a finger and then a crayon. Big tree, star and ornament first.
  • Ages 3–4: one shape per page, from the big shape down to the small rows. Count the shapes in each row together.
  • Ages 4–6: Merry Christmas and the Christmas words. Use the words in a card, a gift tag or a letter to Santa.

Christmas activities to go with the sheets

  • Color after tracing: a green tree with colored ornaments, a red and white candy cane, a brown gingerbread man.
  • Make a card: trace Merry Christmas, cut out the best row and glue it on folded cardstock. For a big colorful title, use Merry Christmas in bubble letters.
  • Gift tags: print the shapes page small, trace, color and cut out the gift and the star.
  • Advent warm-up: one page a day in December keeps handwriting practice going over the holidays.

More tracing all year: letter tracing, number tracing, shapes and name tracing. For a single word in festive colors, see Christmas in bubble letters.
